Is BPC 157 Legal in Australia? Scheduling, Prescriptions and the TGA

Is BPC 157 legal in Australia? At the time of writing (September 2026), BPC-157 is a Schedule 4 (prescription only) substance under the Poisons Standard, effective 1 June 2024, and it is not an approved medicine on the ARTG. This page sets out what we could verify from TGA sources; it is not legal advice.

Is BPC 157 legal in Australia? The short answer

Three facts frame the question, all checked against TGA publications on 30 September 2026:

  1. BPC-157 is in Schedule 4 of the Poisons Standard. Schedule 4 is the "prescription only medicine" schedule.
  2. No BPC-157 product is on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods. There is no approved, registered BPC-157 medicine in Australia.
  3. The TGA treats unapproved peptide products as a compliance priority. Through 2026 it has issued repeated warnings and taken enforcement action over peptides including BPC-157.

Laws change, and state and territory poisons legislation sits on top of the federal Poisons Standard. Check the current Poisons Standard on the Federal Register of Legislation and the TGA website before relying on anything here.

How BPC-157 became Schedule 4

Before 2024, BPC-157 was not captured by the Poisons Standard at all. At the Advisory Committee on Medicines Scheduling meeting in November 2023 (ACMS #43), a proposal was considered to create a new Schedule 4 entry for it. The TGA's interim decision noted the proposal was made in response to 48 referrals for importation of BPC-157 received since 1 July 2022, and that it aimed to align BPC-157 with other performance and image enhancing substances.

The final decision, published on 22 May 2024, confirmed the new Schedule 4 entry with an implementation date of 1 June 2024. The delegate noted there was no reason to delay: BPC-157 is an unapproved medicine and no registered products were affected.

BPC-157 prescription in Australia

Schedule 4 means a substance is available on prescription from an authorised prescriber. That does not create a pharmacy product. Because no BPC-157 medicine is on the ARTG, any lawful clinical supply would have to go through the TGA's pathways for unapproved goods, which carry their own conditions for doctors and pharmacists. In April 2026 the TGA published a notice setting out the responsibilities of those who import, compound and supply unapproved peptide products, a sign that it is watching this channel closely.

Healthy Male, the Australian men's health organisation, states that possessing BPC-157 without a valid prescription is illegal. Whether and how a specific practitioner can prescribe it is a question for that practitioner and, if needed, a lawyer.

Does Chemist Warehouse sell BPC-157?

Searches for BPC-157 Chemist Warehouse and BPC 157 Chemist Warehouse are some of the most common in this topic, and the answer follows from the two facts above. Pharmacies such as Chemist Warehouse sell registered or listed medicines. BPC-157 is neither, and as a Schedule 4 substance it could never be an off-the-shelf retail product. There is no BPC-157 product on the ARTG for any pharmacy chain to stock.

Be wary of websites and social accounts that borrow pharmacy names or wording in their listings. A "warehouse" in a domain name tells you nothing about who is supplying the product or what is in the vial.

What the TGA has said about peptides in 2026

The TGA has also said, in its guidance on what counts as a therapeutic good, that phrases like "for research purposes only" on a label do not change the law when products are supplied for people to use. Its guidance states plainly that disclaimers about how a product should be used do not change the law.

Research-use-only supply and what it does not mean

AminoBlend supplies BPC-157 to laboratories and researchers strictly for in vitro and laboratory research. That is the only use we sell it for, and we do not supply it for human or veterinary use, give dosing advice, or make therapeutic claims (see our research use only statement). Our position is simple: a research-use label describes what a product is for, it is not a licence to use it on yourself, and the TGA has said as much.

If your work involves BPC-157, the right approach is to confirm your own obligations first: your institution's compliance office, the current Poisons Standard, and your state or territory poisons legislation. For product-level quality, every AminoBlend lot is tested by an independent laboratory for identity (mass spectrometry) and purity (HPLC), and the report can be checked on our certificate lookup by lot number.

BPC-157 in sport

Separately from TGA law, BPC-157 is on the WADA Prohibited List under S0, Non-Approved Substances, banned in and out of competition, and Sport Integrity Australia applies that list to Australian athletes. TB-500 is prohibited under S2. Our review of BPC-157 safety evidence covers what is and is not known about the compound itself, and our BPC-157 background guide covers its origin.

Buying BPC-157 Online for Laboratory Research in Australia

If you need BPC-157 for in-vitro or laboratory work, the label and the paperwork matter more than the shop front. Researchers can buy BPC-157 as a 10 mg vial ($69) or a 60-capsule bottle ($79) online from AminoBlend, held in Australian stock, and every order is subject to our research use only policy. Before you buy, read that policy alongside the scheduling summary above. An outside laboratory analyses every batch, and the resulting certificate is filed in the COA library under the lot number on the label. Labs studying tissue repair models can also buy KPV in the same cart. Shop for research purposes only: we do not sell for personal use and give no dosing or treatment advice.

Related tissue repair compounds are grouped in our tissue repair research peptides range, and the TB-500 10 mg research vial is listed separately. This page is general information current at the time of writing, not legal advice, and all products are for research use only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is BPC-157 legal in Australia?

BPC-157 is a Schedule 4 (prescription only) substance in the Poisons Standard, effective 1 June 2024, and no BPC-157 product is on the ARTG. The TGA has stated it is unlawful to import, advertise, manufacture or supply unapproved peptide products. Check the current Poisons Standard and seek legal advice for your situation.

Do you need a prescription for BPC-157 in Australia?

Yes. Schedule 4 substances are prescription only. Because there is no approved BPC-157 medicine on the ARTG, any clinical supply would also have to go through the TGA's pathways for unapproved therapeutic goods. Healthy Male states that possessing it without a valid prescription is illegal.

Does Chemist Warehouse sell BPC-157?

No registered BPC-157 product exists for Chemist Warehouse or any Australian pharmacy to sell. BPC-157 is not on the ARTG and is a Schedule 4 substance, so it cannot be an over-the-counter retail item. Listings using pharmacy-style names are not pharmacy products.

When did BPC-157 become Schedule 4?

The Schedule 4 entry took effect on 1 June 2024. It followed the November 2023 ACMS meeting, an interim decision and a final decision published on 22 May 2024. The TGA cited 48 import referrals for BPC-157 since July 2022.

Does a research use only label make BPC-157 legal?

No. The TGA has stated that labels such as "for research purposes only" do not change the law when products are supplied for people to use. Research-use supply is for laboratory work, and it does not authorise personal use.

Can I buy BPC 157 online in Australia for research?

AminoBlend sells BPC 157 online for laboratory research only, as a 10 mg vial or 60 capsules held in Australian stock, and an outside lab's certificate backs every batch. A research use only label does not make it a medicine or authorise personal use, and we do not sell it for human or veterinary use. Check current TGA scheduling before any work outside a lab.
