Is Retatrutide Available in Australia? Status and Timeline

Is retatrutide available in Australia? Not as a medicine. It is not on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods, no doctor can prescribe it as an approved product, and no pharmacy stocks it. It is available in Australia only through clinical trials and, as a research chemical, to laboratories.

Retatrutide's regulatory status in Australia

Retatrutide is an investigational drug developed by Eli Lilly. At the time of writing it is not approved by the TGA, the US FDA or any comparable regulator, and it is not included on the ARTG. The TGA has named retatrutide in its 2026 warnings about unapproved peptides, alongside BPC-157, TB-500, GHK-Cu and CJC-1295, and has said retatrutide should not be used outside a clinical trial.

Those warnings followed real harm. In June 2026 the Victorian Department of Health reported six cases of acute liver injury linked to unapproved products labelled retatrutide, sometimes sold as "Reta", "R-10" or "R-20", with a contaminant suspected. In September 2026 the TGA reported testing a product labelled retatrutide, after a patient was hospitalised with a torn oesophagus, and found no retatrutide in it at all, only a large dose of undeclared semaglutide. The TGA has also made clear that labelling a product "research use only" does not change its regulatory status if it is supplied or promoted for human use.

Retatrutide and Chemist Warehouse: why pharmacies do not stock it

Searches for retatrutide Australia Chemist Warehouse are common, so to be direct: Chemist Warehouse is an Australian pharmacy chain, and neither it nor any other Australian pharmacy sells retatrutide. A pharmacy can only dispense medicines that are registered on the ARTG (or supplied under a specific exemption), and retatrutide is not registered. Any listing claiming to be retatrutide from a chemist is not genuine. AminoBlend has no connection with Chemist Warehouse or any pharmacy chain.

The related incretin medicines that pharmacies do dispense on prescription are different products: Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and Ozempic and Wegovy (semaglutide). Our retatrutide vs tirzepatide comparison explains how they differ.

When will retatrutide be available in Australia?

Nobody can give a date, and anyone who does is guessing. What can be said:

  • Phase 3 is mostly read out. TRIUMPH-4 reported in December 2025, TRANSCEND-T2D-1 was published in The Lancet in 2026, TRIUMPH-1 reported in May 2026, and TRIUMPH-2 and TRIUMPH-3 in July 2026. A head-to-head trial against tirzepatide, TRIUMPH-5, has an estimated completion of December 2026.
  • The US filing is planned for early 2027. In July 2026 Lilly said it would submit to the FDA in the first quarter of 2027, later than first signalled, to gather more manufacturing and quality-control data.
  • Australia is a separate application. Lilly would need to apply to the TGA for registration, and the TGA runs its own evaluation. Lilly has not published an Australian submission date that we could verify.

For context, tirzepatide was registered in Australia as Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes in late 2022, and its chronic weight management indication was approved by the TGA in September 2024, well after the US decisions. A realistic reading is that retatrutide will not be an approved medicine in Australia before an FDA decision, and after that it depends on when Lilly files here and how the TGA review goes. Being on the ARTG would also not mean PBS subsidy, which is a separate process.

How to get retatrutide in Australia legitimately: clinical trials

For a person, the only approved route to retatrutide in Australia today is a clinical trial. Lilly's programme has run at Australian sites: the cardiovascular and kidney outcomes trial, TRIUMPH-Outcomes, lists sites including Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, Box Hill Hospital, The Alfred, Canberra Hospital, Fiona Stanley Hospital, Royal North Shore Hospital and the University of Sydney's Charles Perkins Centre. Several of these studies are no longer recruiting.

For retatrutide trial sign-up in Australia, search the Australian Clinical Trials website (australianclinicaltrials.gov.au), which draws on the ANZCTR register, or ClinicalTrials.gov filtered to Australia. Enrolment is decided by the trial team against strict eligibility criteria, and a GP or specialist can help assess whether a study is suitable.

Where to buy retatrutide online in Australia for laboratory research

The other legitimate market is research. AminoBlend supplies retatrutide to laboratories and researchers as a research chemical for in vitro and laboratory work, not as a medicine and not for human use. It comes as freeze-dried powder in 10, 20 and 30 mg vials, and as a 10 mg research pen in solution.

Which format to buy depends on the work. The lyophilised retatrutide vials are priced at $129 (10 mg), $209 (20 mg) or $289 (30 mg), so the larger fills lower the cost per milligram for longer studies. The retatrutide starter kit starts at $134 and can be chosen with any of the three vial sizes, while the pen at $149 suits labs that want the compound already in solution. All of it is held in Australian stock and sold online with a lot-matched independent certificate. Shop retatrutide here, and if you buy a vial, add bacteriostatic water to the same order.

The best place to buy retatrutide in Australia for research: what to check

The Victorian liver injury cases and the TGA's semaglutide finding make one thing plain: with retatrutide, the risk is not knowing what is in the vial. Whoever you consider the best place to buy retatrutide in Australia for research, check these before ordering:

  1. A certificate of analysis per lot. Not a generic PDF, but a COA tied to a specific lot number.
  2. A lot number on the vial that matches that COA, so the paperwork provably belongs to the product in your hand. You can check ours on the COA lookup page.
  3. Identity by mass spectrometry. HPLC purity alone does not prove the peptide is retatrutide; a vial of pure semaglutide could pass a purity test. Mass spectrometry confirms the molecular mass matches retatrutide, about 4.73 kDa.
  4. Independent testing rather than a supplier's own in-house numbers.
  5. A stated fill in milligrams and proper labelling, with storage guidance.

Every AminoBlend lot is tested by an independent laboratory for identity (mass spectrometry) and purity (HPLC), and the quality testing page explains the process. Our guide to reading a certificate of analysis shows what a real COA should contain.

For preparing vials, see the retatrutide reconstitution calculator and the wider metabolic research peptide range. Research use only: AminoBlend products are sold for laboratory research and are not for human or veterinary use. Read our research use only policy before ordering.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is retatrutide available in Australia?

Not as a medicine. Retatrutide is not on the ARTG, is not approved by the TGA, and cannot be prescribed or dispensed as an approved product. People can access it in Australia only through registered clinical trials. It is also supplied as a research chemical to laboratories, strictly for research and not for human use.

When will retatrutide be available in Australia?

There is no confirmed date. Lilly has said it plans to file with the US FDA in the first quarter of 2027. An Australian launch would need a separate TGA application and evaluation, and Lilly has not announced an Australian timeline. Tirzepatide's weight management approval in Australia came after its US approval, which gives a rough guide.

Can I buy retatrutide at Chemist Warehouse?

No. Chemist Warehouse, like every Australian pharmacy, can only dispense registered medicines, and retatrutide is not registered. No pharmacy in Australia sells it. Chemist Warehouse does dispense registered incretin medicines such as Mounjaro and Ozempic on prescription, but those are tirzepatide and semaglutide, not retatrutide.

How can I join a retatrutide clinical trial in Australia?

Search australianclinicaltrials.gov.au or ClinicalTrials.gov for retatrutide and filter to Australia. Lilly's programme has used Australian hospital and research sites, though several studies have finished recruiting. Each trial has strict eligibility criteria, and your GP or specialist can help you work out whether an open study suits you.

Is retatrutide FDA approved?

No. As of September 2026, retatrutide is not approved by the FDA. Lilly has reported positive phase 3 results from several TRIUMPH and TRANSCEND trials and said in July 2026 that it plans to submit its US application in the first quarter of 2027. A decision would follow the FDA's review period after that.

Where can I buy retatrutide online in Australia for research?

AminoBlend sells retatrutide online for laboratory research as 10, 20 and 30 mg lyophilised vials, a 10 mg pen in 3 mL of solution and a starter kit, all held in Australian stock. Every batch has an outside lab's identity and purity report. It is not a medicine, it is not approved by the TGA, and it is not sold for human use.
